In Greek mythology, Hermes is the god of trade, movement and eloquence in Greek mythology. He is the son of Supreme God Zeus and daughter of mountain nymph Maia. Also Messenger of the gods and protector of thieves and travellers. Hermes belongs to the twelve Olympic gods, the gods who lived on Mount Olympus.
Apart from his duty as the messenger of Zeus, he accompanied the deceased to Hades.
To facilitate this important task as a guide and messenger, the gods give him winged sandals with which he is able to move over land and water at high speed. He receives a winged hat (Petasos), which can bring him directly everywhere.
