Max le Verrier (1891 - 1973) - Art Deco Bookends "Mouflons"

Beautiful original bookends with two Mouflons, by the famous sculptor Max Le Verrier, 29th January 1891 - 6th June 1973. Max le Verrier was known for its stylized Art Deco statues. These Mouflons bookends show also cubist influence. In the beginning of 1917, he was fortunately appointed to go to a camp in Switzerland (prison trade) instead of having to go to war. He went to the Beaux Arts school in Geneva to the GUIBERT’s atelier. Back in Paris in 1918 he created a collection of animals statues inspired by zoos and circuses. Le Verrier is considered by some to be one of the foremost French Art Deco sculptors. He had his own workshop where he also collaborated with other artists, like Pierre Le Faguays - his close friend-, Marcel Bouraine and others. Max le Verrier had his own recipe for his metal alloy and also used a very characteristic green patina. These bookends are both signed and are mounted on a heavy original pedestal of marble. Weight: 1298 and 1347 grams respectively. The Mouflons will be carefully packed and send by trackable courier.
