Piaggio - Vespa Faro basso VM1T - 125 cc - 1953

Piaggio - Vespa 125cc VM1T - 1953 Restored 10 years ago. The peculiarity of this model is the aluminium bonnet. DOCUMENTS Struck off the register: the vehicle underwent a de-registration procedure from Italian Motor Vehicle Register. This vehicle has no documents for use on public roads. Before bidding, please check the vehicle registration rules in your country. Neither the seller nor Catawiki are responsible for the vehicle’s new registration. With original Italian documents and number plate. In full working condition. The Vespa 53 model was quite different from the previous ones. To ensure better visibility, the headlight was increased to 105 mm, while the bonnet was given a continuous development, interrupted only by the air intake shutter. Controls were put on the handlebar and tank was enlarged for greater autonomy, . The most substantial change was made to the engine, which became in this model – for the first time in a large scale production – a cross-flow scavenging system engine. This engine was called M1, an acronym used later to identify the engine and frame prefix (VM1). Born thanks to fortuitous coincidences, the experimentation of this engine began when the Piaggio Experimental Department tried to develop a more performing engine for the Vespa Sport, and created a prototype of a cross-flow scavenging system engine, giving rise to a propeller that proved itself capable of increasing the power of only one hp (so unsuitable for the Sport), but that immediately showed a certain reduction in consumption, a fundamental aspect for a standard vehicle. This engine, also called a "square" type for the for the use of the same stroke and bore (54 mm), was also equipped with a flywheel shaft able to reduce the volume of the sump pump and to improve the volumetric efficiency. The clutch was strengthened through the introduction of a double disc and the cooling system was improved to ensure the engine performance even under the worst conditions. It can be viewed at San Benedetto del Tronto, Central Italy.
