The BeoCord 2200 is a high-fidelity cassette recorder with Dolby noise suppression system and ferrite heads with high density, which offer good sound quality and a long lease of life . This is identical to the BeoCord 1700 in nearly every detail, with the only difference being that the BeoCord 2200 is equipped with the Dolby B noise suppression unit. In a rare break with their minimal style, B&O chose to show this by writing “BeoCord 2200 Dolby System” on the front, where the more simple version only read “BeoCord 1700”. The BeoCord 2200 was the best BeoCord cassette recorder that was available at the time, although it was very expensive and cost nearly as much as the tangential tracking turntable of BeoGram 4000. There is a push button for switching between chromium dioxide and normal tapes. With the Dolby noise suppression system and chrome dioxide tapes, a signal-noise ratio of 61 dB can be obtained. There are two large VU meters and separate controls for the recording level for the left and right channels. There is an automatic stop at the end of the tape and the memory function adds to the 3-digit counter, so the tape can automatically stop at ‘0’. Connections for headphones and microphone are discreetly hidden under a sliding panel on the top of the device. The frequency range is 30-14,500 Hz. Wow and flutter is less than ± 0.12% (JIS) or ± 0.2% (DIN).
